welcome to population; smokey
Devendra Banhart has some new shit going on. who isn't excited about this? the new album, entitled
Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon (in which Smokey is a nickname Devendra gives to himself), is so much different from anything else i've heard from him. it has some psychedelic 70's rock (dare i say there is a song that reminds me of
The Doors?), beautiful spanish lullabies, and guest vocals by Gael García Bernal as well as Nick Valensi of
The Strokes (and some others, too).

The Most Serene Republic. i am not exactly sure why that is, but i found their first album annoying; it seemed spastic and not in a good way, more like an all over the place and kid like way. they are young, aren't they? well, i didn't bother with their EP
Phages, but when i saw their new album
Population was around, i thought i might as well give it a shot.
and i like it. it's full sounding, it's loud, big, epic. it sounds more grown up and together. i guess i can't really compare it to their first album very well as i never listened to it much, but i really do enjoy this one. i think most people will.
present of future end - the most serene republicsherry and her butterfly net - the most serene republicsolipsism millionaires - the most serene republicWintersleep is a band that i think is way too underrated. it doesn't make sense to me how they are so unknown and looked over when their sound is honestly amazing and full of emotion. i can only hope that this album will get them some well deserved attention.
love them.
their new album is entitled
Welcome To The Night Sky. Paul Murphy's voice is a bit odd, i guess, but really it's beautiful. their total canadian indie rock, but way better than average shit. it's like, fucking rocking indie rock.
okay, now that i've over hyped them and you're going to hate them now, i'm stopping. if you don't like this album, at least download their 2003 self titled and give that a go.

love is simple.
no, love is not simple, but, this is actually the title of the new
Akron/Family album! embracing once again psychedelic folk, weird chanting and sing-alongs, field recordings of birds & crickets, and other completely weird random shit. i'm really enjoying this one; it's a step up from their self titled, but still can never replace it completely in my mind.
Love Is Simple is extremely catchy and you must listen to it if you're an Akron/Family fan.
i didn't know that the band contributed vocals to
Do Make Say Think's newest album
You, You're A History In Rust.

Wolf Parade show; it was pretty amazing/entertaining.
Holy Fuck were impressive. WP played a bunch of new stuff, one of the better ones being Fine Young Cannibals, which i have a live version i stole from somewheres..
fine young cannibals (live) - wolf paradeyou can find many other bootlegs of live songs from their shows on hypemachine. i won't give you a link because you should know what it is already.
ACDG.
this track is a fucking dancefloor killer. prime badass.
Yelle - A Cause Des Garcons (Tepr Remix)and i can't imagine a better pairing than this. well i could imagine them, but in reality they probably wouldn't be that great. i want so much more from these two.
