  welcome to population; smokey
Devendra Banhart has some new shit going on. who isn't excited about this? the new album, entitled Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon (in which Smokey is a nickname Devendra gives to himself), is so much different from anything else i've heard from him. it has some psychedelic 70's rock (dare i say there is a song that reminds me of The Doors?), beautiful spanish lullabies, and guest vocals by Gael García Bernal as well as Nick Valensi of The Strokes (and some others, too).

i never could get into The Most Serene Republic. i am not exactly sure why that is, but i found their first album annoying; it seemed spastic and not in a good way, more like an all over the place and kid like way. they are young, aren't they? well, i didn't bother with their EP Phages, but when i saw their new album Population was around, i thought i might as well give it a shot.
and i like it. it's full sounding, it's loud, big, epic. it sounds more grown up and together. i guess i can't really compare it to their first album very well as i never listened to it much, but i really do enjoy this one. i think most people will.

present of future end - the most serene republic
sherry and her butterfly net - the most serene republic
solipsism millionaires - the most serene republic

Wintersleep is a band that i think is way too underrated. it doesn't make sense to me how they are so unknown and looked over when their sound is honestly amazing and full of emotion. i can only hope that this album will get them some well deserved attention.
love them.
their new album is entitled Welcome To The Night Sky. Paul Murphy's voice is a bit odd, i guess, but really it's beautiful. their total canadian indie rock, but way better than average shit. it's like, fucking rocking indie rock.
okay, now that i've over hyped them and you're going to hate them now, i'm stopping. if you don't like this album, at least download their 2003 self titled and give that a go.

drunk on aluminum - wintersleep
dead letter & the infinite yes - wintersleep
laser beams - wintersleep
