the flying club cup.
who hasn't eagerly been awaiting this one? and if you had no idea it was coming, well here it is anyway!!
new
Beirut!
The Flying Club Cup is to be released October 9 2007. the string arrangements are composed by none other than
Final Fantasy's Owen Pallett.
this album is French pop with a big sound, instead of the odd gypsy Balkan style, with inspiration coming from a photo Zach found from 1910 of hot air balloons flying close to the Eiffel Tower. it definitely is still very Beirut style, if you know what i mean. it's not a drastic change in the slightest, but so beautiful.
nantes - beirutcliquot - beirut (Owen Pallett)
cherbourg - beirutst. apollonia - beiruthe's going on a euro tour pretty soon, and i know i'm praying for a vancouver date on his north american tour.
air mattresses suck.
hi all. i am here reporting from my constantly deflating air mattress, 15 minutes before i have to leave for work!
something lovely and new i found last night;
Ghosts Will Come And Kiss Our Eyes, a new album by
Hrsta. who? yeah, that's what i said. but then i noticed they were signed to Constellation Records, so i knew it had to be a win. i looked into it, and this band is fronted by Mike Moya. now, he was one of the founders of
Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and that is a good explanation as to why Hrsta has a bit of of Godspeed sound with its string instruments. Moya has a really unique voice, and i think it's something you will either dislike/like right off the bat.
the music is eerie post rock, psychedelic in a way. for the most part, it's very guitar based. i think if you like Godspeed (or other Constellation artists) you'll like Hrsta.
here are three songs off the album, two of which are instrumentals:
entre la mer et l'eau douce - hrstahaunted pluckley - hrstasaturn of chagrin - hrstai think aaron has dropped off the face of the blogosphere.
the go's.
i've been listening to
The Go Find a lot lately. Dieter Sermeus has a lullaby voice, and while the album
Stars On The Wall as a whole is kind of meh, there are at least two killer tracks that just sound so good! and it would be these two:
dictionary - the go findnew year - the go findnew
Go! Team album, hurray!! they were actually signed to Sub Pop, who are going to release
Proof of Youth. it's the same deal; wicked 70's super fun. that girl's voice! the sort of rap thing going on! the trumpets!!
it's good, but it's kind of all over the place, almost messy. it sounds really old, which is pretty rad. i don't find the songs as catchy as some of the stuff from
Thunder Lightning Strike, but hey it's still fun.
grip like a vice - the go! teamuniversal speech - the go! teamand i'm sure aaron will be in soon to drop some hot
Russ Chimes.
