  Sounds like Tuesday
Ian throws together a set every tuesday. or at least he claims to. but there have been at least a couple weeks where i've been stuck empty handed.
but this week he delivered. the NYPC jam is especially hot, and i'm totally falling for shakes.

  poodles and optigans
i wanted to post this because it's one of the most hilarious songs i've ever heard. it's silly, yet i still like it.
okay, Optiganally Yours is a band formed by Rob Crow and Dan Hicks. Hicks purchased optigan (an odd electronic keyboard that plays looped recordings of real instruments on clear optically encoded discs instead of creating its own simulated sounds of organs and drums or whatever) and first it was to be a cheesy cover band, but then the two started to create actual songs with the optigan and help of a four track. thus.. all this weird crap came out.

poodleman - optiganally yours

and i thought i'd also post my favourite. it's silly too.. but in a better way? all of their music is silly and odd.

gepetto - optiganally yours

  dumb animals
alright, the band Handsome Furs is not really known. i mean, people know about them, but not a whole lot. it is the side project of Dan Boeckner from Wolf Parade and his fiance Alexei Perry.. and really what else is there to say? oh, they are signed to Sub Pop.. and.. yeah, they've played a few shows opening for Modest Mouse and are touring Europe a bit in March.

so, last night i played a small role in the Handsome Furs music video. the director called me up (a friend of a close cousin) and asked me if i wanted a small part, and i agreed, going into it not having any clue what i was going to be expected to do.
i get to the set (a gorgeous house in Oak Bay) before the director or even the band, and hang out with the other extras. super awkward. finally people show up and we're all ushered inside and downstairs, which is like another house all on it's own. shooting starts upstairs on the mainfloor, and by that point all i know is that i'm going to wear a black dress and have extreme black makeup. some of the other people are henchmen and murderers or whatever. my involvement in the music video was sitting at a table looking as emotionless as possible, while staring down at a weird plate of food. there was some weight lifter girl doing stuff, and another girl who was like me... and really, i still don't even know what it was all about.

but what i do know is that it will be the music video for the song Dumb Animals. there are very few Handsome Furs mp3's floating around, you'll either this untitled track known as a demo song, and then this live cover they did of The Other Side Of Mt. Heart Attack, originally a Liars song. the untitled track is Dumb Animals i am quite certain, as he says 'dumb animals' in the song, but it could just be a demo and perhaps the real recording will sound a lot different.

if you're curious, have a listen:

dumb animals - handsome furs

as for a release date for the album.. well, i asked Dan, and he said art work was still being decided so probably a couple of months. he didn't even really seem to know. i guess we will just have to keep waiting.
and for the video, it will probably take the same amount of time. i'm curious to see if my small role even makes the final cut. i did get paid, so it was worth it to me.

  Miami!
Horror!
BigStereo dropped this on me today. I'm about ready to cry. You have no idea.
Miami Horror - Don't Be On With her
Make sure you go by BigStereo and pick up the Miami Horror remix they have. I won't tell you what they mixed. But you'll scream when you hear it.

  i want summer now

  Feverish
i made up a dj set of some new hot stuff that's come out over the past week, and a few other tracks that i've been enjoying for a while. i'm pretty sure this will be my standard format for posting stuff on here. it make me feel less like im just ripping off every other blog on the internet. there's a bit of me involved.
Feverish
Tracklisting:
Hellogoodbye - Here (In Your Arms) (Young Americans Remix)
Chromeo - Fancy Footwork
Peter, Bjorn and John - Young Folks (Punks Jump Up Special Disco Mix)
Klaxons - As Above, So Below
Van She Tech vs. Utah Saints - Something Good
Vicarious Bliss - Limousine
ZZZ vs. DJ Mehdi- Signatune
SebastiAn - Greel
Shakes - Disneyland Vacation
i finally got around to listening to klaxons myths of the near future and i still don't know what to think. the songs that have been released and remixed to hell are definitely the standouts. i wish that they would stop fucking around with noise breaks so much, because that really isnt their strong suit. they pull of the smoother pop parts so well though. i have had 'golden skans' and 'as above, so below' on repeat alot.
i don't think i really need to say anything about the fact there's new chromeo dropping. max-x.
and i really hope young americans continue dropping jams like the two i've heard. but LA kids making french electro seems like a volatile experiment.

  scenario
you're exhausted. you just got off work from your first (7 hour) shift at a physically demanding job. it's pouring outside. you're back is killing. the headache you've had all week won't go away. you wait for your bus and when it comes, it's full. you stand for half of the ride, sit for the other half. you fall asleep for a bit and almost miss your stop. you stumble home to find that your bed is a mess and you can't use the duvet (it's being cleaned due to the red wine stain).

so,
you make a pizza with large amounts of cheese on it, sit down at your desk.. and put on Sanso-Xtro.
you keep that on and then go have a warm bath to relax your muscles. you fall asleep again, to this song..

misplaced feather - sanso-xtro

it's a very calming moment.

  So Daft.
so i really hope you weren't planning on going to coachella. it's sold out. i'm clearly too broke to have gone, but i really would have liked to. all my favourites in one place. all my number ones.
anywho, let's take this opportunity to look back on last year's coachella (not that i went to that either) and the insane set by daft punk. when i remembered this the other day, daft punk were completely redeemed in my mind for their sampling. this is the hottest shit ever.
Daft Punk - Around the World vs. Harder Better Faster Stronger (Live at Coachella '06)
4/4 heaven.

  mousey
some new Modest Mouse songs.

march into the sea - modest mouse

people as places as people - modest mouse

i like it. i haven't ever really not liked something Modest Mouse did. although, i wasn't the hugest fan of Good News For People Who Love Bad News.

  some more new things
gots myself 23, the newest Blonde Redhead album, not to be released until April 10th. i haven't been listening to it as much as the new Frog Eyes, but my impression on the whole album is that it seems kind of boring so far. perhaps if i keep listening my opinion will change.
for now, here's a track.

spring and by summer fall - blonde redhead

they're touring, too. so make sure you catch them April 20th in Vancouver at the Commodore Ballroom. i think i might make the trek over to see them.. depending on my final thoughts about this album.

i also have the new Modest Mouse (We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank) but have not listened yet. it was leaked yesterday, so it'll be circulating very fast, i'm sure.

if someone really does want the new Frog Eyes (ahem kyle?), i could probably host it up on here for a couple of days.
we'll see, because now it's time for a super quick cat-nap...

EDIT
this is where i got the the new Frog Eyes.
you need a yousendit account to download. it expires in a week.

  breaking a non-existing rule
i was going to be all 'one post a day' but then i realized... why?

thanks to my good friend cullen, i have the new Frog Eyes album Tears Of The Valedictorian, to be released May 1st on Absolutely Kosher records.
i've been listening to it all evening, and so far my favourite is this song:

"stockades" - frog eyes

and
April 14th Frog Eyes @ Logan's Pub

  Blast from the Past
while on a brief surf around the good ole' internet today i found something quite spectacular that i assumed was long lost.
The Salons - Dancefloors
I honestly don't remember if this was meant to be a Salons track or not, but it was on the .ontime records site, so i'm just going to say it was.

  just ignore the horrible weather
post v-day so far has been spent playing nintendogs non-stop. i don't care if you're laughing, it is seriously the funnest game ever. honestly the best valentine's gift!

(side note; my grandma is running around the house yelling "yes! yes! it's ours!" so i guess we got the lot down the street.)

so, i'm all warm and snuggled up in bed playing nintendogs, listening to the extremes of the howling wind at my window with the rain is splattering loudly against it.. i decide some summer music would be much more appropriate and perhaps lift me from this lethargic state.
so what do i play for my corgi (named Lazer) and i to enjoy?
Lifetime.
it's totally the fault of miles that i like this band now. they are not a type of music i listen to often (if at all).

anyway, perhaps you'd like to enjoy some summertime jams, too.
this is a song from their new self titled.

airport monday morning - lifetime

(and now i'm being dragged outside to go look at a piece of land. ughhh i just want to play with Lazer.)

  Heartbroken
but it has nothing to do with valentine's day other than it's a wednesday. it has everything to do with palmsoutsounds and their sample wednesdays. i've never really been a big fan of sample wednesdays, and usually just keep palmsout on hand for remix sundays. the sample wednesdays are always about rappers i either dont like or just plain don't give a fuck about. but then today they drop this daft punk sample wednesday and they've totally broken my heart.
all the hottest hooks from discovery are lies. stolen. thieved from the coked out hands of disco.
okay, maybe not all the hooks. and daft punk really did take the samples and make songs that are way the hell better. but if you listen to 'cola bottle baby' and 'i love you more' you'll hear exactly what i'm talking about.
this is my disappointed parent speech.

  Won't You Be...
My Valentine?
I made this last night to celebrate this joke of a day. I guess you have to love someone to understand Valentine's, and I've never had the two times overlap. So to me it's just a big marketing ploy. But there's nothing more Dreamboat than marketing ploys!
Oh and I finally found an auto-tune VST plugin again. Everyone give it up for the return of over-processed Cher vocals!
Dreamboat - Won't You Be

  v-day
a post fit for your valentine's day.
whether you:

are alone and looking back on a past love,
you love me - devotchka

have been totally shot down,
not quite a yes - arab strap

are totally crushin' on some bitch who doesn't realize you'd be the best thing that ever happened to her,
tech romance - her space holiday

are creepily obsessed and stalker-ish (hey, that can be love..),
no one sees you like i do - +/-

or are insanely happy in love,
so happy together - the turtles (awwwwwwwwwweeeeeee geee)

there are so many bitter 'alone and looking back on a past love' songs, but i chose Devotchka because i can't get enough of his voice.
and i'm not sorry about The Turtles. you're lucky i didn't put Foreigner's Cold As Ice, because i almost did. such a good song!

and just because, a song by Casiontone For The Painfully Alone, because Owen Ashworth just always reminds me of heartbreak and love failure.

i love creedence - casiotone for the painfully alone

  new addition
finally, i am here.
i'm talia, and i'll be posting up various random mp3's of new music (and old music too, i guess) of pretty much any genre. whatever i'm into, you will be into.

for my introductory post, i thought it would be a good idea to get out there one of my favourite musical acts. you've heard of Smog, i'm sure. who hasn't? well for his newest record (entitled Woke On A Whaleheart), Bill Callahan has dropped the moniker and is just going by his birth given name. don't fret, the sound is still the same (well, i mean in the sense that he hasn't gone reggae or anything that dramatic).

the album has been leaked already of course, so you can find it pretty much anywhere you like on the net. the release date is April 17th, if you're looking to purchase.
a single will be 'released' on March 20th (my birthday, how wonderful!) and it just happens to be one of my favourites.
but because the song is already on every other music blog out there, i thought i would not just upload that, but another one of my favourites.

enjoy.

diamond dancer - bill callahan (the single)

honeymoon child - bill callahan

  Black Fag
I found this over at missingtoof today. I couldn't resist re-posting it. The name is just too rad.
Crystal Castles - Black Fag

  Hold My Calls
I'm really just trying to fill space on here right now and make sure this design is working out how I want it to.
So here I am tossing up a mix I did a few weeks ago for a friend's mix cd. I'm actually a total douche and haven't mailed it to her yet, even though I got the one she made me like two weeks ago. Tomorrow I'll mail it. In my defence, I realised that when I chopped the set up into tracks for the CD I put a double on it by accident. So she would have had a fucked up mix with Kavinsky on it three times. Now she'll get the right one.

Hold My Calls

Tracklist:
Klaxons - Golden Skans (SebastiAn Remix)
Kavinsky - Testrossa Autodrive (SebastiAn Remix)
Justice - Phantom (Faex Re-Edit)
Yuksek - Sorry
The Presets - Hung Down
Thieves Like Us - Fass
Van She - Sex City (Nightmoves Remix)
Flairs - Trucker's Delight
The Teenagers - Fuck Nicole (Sluttt Ketateen Remix)
Crystal Castles vs. Health - Crimewave
The Avalanches - A Different Feeling (Paperclip People Remix)
Duran Duran - Nice (Eric Prydz Mix)
Teki Latex - Electronic
Alex Gopher - Brain Leech

Sidenote: Brain Leech is officially my most played song in iTunes. D.A.N.C.E. is a close second. And I haven't even had them for a month.

  The Hills Night
Friends are coming over. I have very little time to write this.
Nevertheless, I whipped up this little DJ set tonight to ignore all the work I should be doing. I'll put up the tracklist later.

The Hills

  They call me Dreamboat.
Hey! First post yay! I figured to introduce myself I may as well do some shameless self-promotion and throw up the newest track I've finished. My friend nick wanted some summer tunes to get out of the shitty grey weather we've been having. This is the result:
Dreamboat - Sunbathin'
